In May Google announced that more Google searches take place on mobile devices than on computers in 10 countries including the US and Japan.  This is the first time that mobile has overshadowed desktop for website views.

Mobile First web design is now becoming the standard.  Mobile First websites are built for the mobile device first and desktop second.  The layouts are typically linear and stacked with scrolling content.  The fonts are large and readable for smaller devices.  Designs are clean and simple and content is approached as a hierarchy with the most important content at the top.
